अहङ्कारयुक्तानां बलवतां च अत्याचारान्‌ समाधातुं दौर्जन्यं दमयितुं च प्रजातन्त्रं एव अलं किंतु जनस्य अन्तःसत्त्वं प्रफुल्लयितुं आविष्कर्तुं च न तत्‌ क्षमते। प्रजातन्त्रजले मध्यविवेकिमीनः एव सुखेन जीवेत्‌ इति प्रजातन्त्रं कदाचित्‌ लघूक्रियते।

यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः।
स यत्‌ प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते॥ गीता ३, २१

(Whatever a great man does, that very thing other men also do; whatever standard he sets up, the generality of men follow the same.)

The history of the world is the biography of great men इति Carlyleवचनं गीतानुकूलं। कः पन्था इति यक्षप्रश्नस्य उत्तरं युधिष्ठिरेण एवं दत्तं।

तर्कोऽप्रतिष्ठः श्रुतयो विभिन्नाः नैको ऋषिर्यस्य मतं प्रमाणं।
धर्मस्य तत्त्वं निहितं गुहायां महाजनो येन गतः स पन्था॥ महाभारते वनपर्वणि ३१३

(Reason is a journey that leads to nowhere; the Scriptures speak in many voices; no man is a Prophet in every land and every age; the Truth of Dharma is hidden in the cave (of Speculation); (In such a situation, therefore,) the best way is to follow the foot-prints of wise and enlightened men.)

महापुरुषराज्यं वरं इव भाति। किंतु कलियुगे महापुरुषाः कुत्र स्युः? अतः विशिष्टजनेषु प्रकृत्या उदासीनेभ्यः मध्यविवेकिभ्यः बहुसङ्ख्यात्मकेभ्यः निर्विशेषजनेभ्यः प्रजातन्त्रं एव हितं येन ते संविधानकर्त्रादिमहापुरुषप्रेरणया युधिष्ठिरप्रस्तावितेन महाजनपथा मन्दं मन्दं गच्छेयुः।

भारतनिर्वाचने जनानां मतं कदाचित्‌ विस्मयकरं भवति। अतः
